Sarah has over 20 years of experience in the medical, research, and academic sectors. As CDT Manager at UCL School of Pharmacy, she excels in leadership and strategic planning, managing three Centres of Doctoral Training and shaping the Centre’s EDI strategy. Sarah also developed the UCL SWILD (Senior and Women in Leadership Development Programme) Alumni Network mentor scheme.

Sarah grew up in London and attended local schools and college. Her voluntary work includes co-chairing the UCL SWILD Alumni Network and founding the UCL Parents and Carers of Neurodivergent Children Support Group.

Graham has a background in medical research and project management, with experience in Photobiology, Hepatitis C, and Engineering. He has worked on large-scale projects like the European Commission Framework 7 Programme and the Department of Health Policy Research Programme.

Graham grew up in various places and holds an Animal Biology degree from UEL. His career spans clinical research, clinical trial management, and PRISM roles on large projects.

Gareth grew up in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and earned an MChem degree from Pembroke College, Oxford, in 2002. He completed a DPhil in materials chemistry in 2005 and worked in science programme management for the UK government before returning to Oxford for a post-doctoral position in 2009.

In 2010, Gareth joined London Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science. He moved to the UCL School of Pharmacy in 2012, where he progressed from Lecturer to full Professor by 2020. Gareth currently leads the Accelerated Medicines Design & Development CDT and holds multiple roles, including Professor of Pharmaceutical Materials Science, Deputy Director of the UCL School of Pharmacy, Head of the Research Department of Pharmaceutics, and Co-Director of the EPSRC & SFI CDT in Transformative Pharmaceutical Technologies.

Professor Gaisford holds a Chair in Pharmaceutics. He joined UCL School of Pharmacy in 2003, having previously been a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Huddersfield. He undertook his PhD at the University of Kent at Canterbury, under Professor AE Beezer and then held Postdoctoral Research Assistant posts at the School with Profs DQM Craig and G Buckton. He has published 233 papers (h-index 67 with 18,000 citations), 8 book chapters and 4 books, made the Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher list in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, is the Presenter of the educational YouTube channel Pharma Drama (with more than 50,000 subscribers) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Helen is a Co-Director on the AMD&D CDT, focusing on sustainability. With over 30 years of PhD supervision experience, she has coordinated the UCL Wellcome Trust PhD training programme and served as Graduate Tutor in Chemistry at UCL. Her research includes sustainable synthetic methods using biological catalysts, biocatalyst discovery, biocatalytic synthesis of pharmaceutical building blocks, and using biomass waste for high-value compounds. She also works on enzyme discovery for plastic degradation and novel lipids and delivery devices.

Helen grew up in Nottinghamshire, attended her local Comprehensive School, and enjoyed maths and the sciences. She was the first in her family to attend university, earning a first-class BA in Natural Sciences. She completed a PhD in biological chemistry at Cambridge, followed by post-doctoral work at Cambridge and Imperial College London. After maternity leave, she became a lecturer at UCL, progressing to Senior Lecturer, Reader, and in 2010, Professor of Chemical Biology. In 2024, she became the Alexander Williamson Professor of Chemistry.

Jonathan focuses on biomaterials for tissue engineering and regeneration. With over 30 years of research experience, he has supervised many PhD students now in senior academic and industry roles. He leads Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering research at the Eastman, with work on degradable materials clinically applied, including a licensed bone graft material. A recent spinout is in phase I clinical trials for spinal cord repair. He co-developed a Dental Medicine Centre with Dankook University and holds over 20 patents.

Jonathan grew up in St Annes, near Blackpool. Initially studying Geology at university, he discovered a passion for ceramics. After summer research jobs in materials science, he completed a PhD with Garth Hastings. He spent time at Aichi Medical University and then returned to Queen Mary University of London for a postdoctoral position at the UK national centre for biomaterials. He was later appointed to a lectureship at the Eastman, where he has remained.

Ryo is a digital skills training co-lead in the CDT, with expertise in computational modelling of human physiology. Born in Japan, he has lived in Thailand, the USA, and the UK for over 20 years. He is excited to support students from diverse backgrounds in the CDT.

Ryo received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2003. He has worked at the University of Tokyo, Rice University, and Imperial College London before joining UCL Mechanical Engineering in 2012. Since 2021, he has been a Professor of Biomechanics, leading the UCL Computational Biomechanics Lab and the Biomechanical Engineering Research Division. His research focuses on developing computational methods to understand and treat cardiovascular diseases.

Cameron specialises in polymer formulations for vaccines, therapeutics, and treatments for infectious diseases, cancers, and neurodegeneration. He holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Durham, UK, and completed post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge.

For nearly 20 years, Cameron has been a key leader in Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs), finding joy and fulfilment in these roles. He values the diversity of working with scientists from over 25 countries, believing it enriches the scientific community and drives progress. Cameron is committed to fostering collaboration and innovation to advance global health.
